Technological overview

The FSCC is a closed-loop subsea cooler that can cool any liquid. It can be used for heat transport and dissipation of heat from systems that have access to water, such as HVDC platforms.

The FSCC system can replace traditional sea water lift pump systems for both environmental and economic benefits.

The cooling liquid in the central cooling circuit is circulated through the FSCC which dissipates the heat to the surrounding sea water.

A passive system

Apart from the topside circulation pump the system is completely passive and it removes the need for the sea water cooling circuit on the topside, including sea water lift pumps, filters, hypochlorite system and heat exchangers and sea water lines.

The subsea coolers can either be free-standing on structures on the seabed or integrated into the platform structure.

A scalable system

The cooler pipe design can be easily scaled to the project requirements using Future Technology’s proprietary software Simcool.

The software has been thoroughly tested in real-world situations and is a very effective and accurate design tool that allows Future Technology to design more compact coolers than our competitors.

The FSCC unit(s) can be scaled to any project’s need and can be made individually retrievable/installable using either ROVs or divers. This type of subsea technology is well proven within the oil and gas business.

Naturally anti-fouling

The FSCC also uses a patented design that allows the pipes to expand freely when heated, which at the same time protects the anti-corrosion and anti-fouling properties of the cooler pipes.

The design also minimises the impact of marine fouling from support structures. The selected material makes the closed-loop cooler naturally anti-fouling, and this minimises the need for maintenance.
